La Santísima Trinidad sueca del metal ha vuelto con mucha más fuerza que antes, presentándonos su sexto álbum de estudio pese a la pandemia. Después del tremendo éxito que tuvo “Helix” (2018) en los charts internacionales, los visionarios de AMARANTHE vuelven a conquistar el mercado del metal con Manifest; una obra totalmente fresca, enérgica y explosiva que combina el clásico toque electrónico característico de la banda con otras texturas del metal melódico y el power metal. Este disco es sin duda, otra de las tantas obras musicales fabulosas del mastermind de la banda, Olof Mörck.

El disco abre con violencia y nos introduce a los tres vocalistas uno por uno. ‘FEARLESS’ es una bomba sónica y rápida, cargada con guitarras aplastantes y sazonada con los ingredientes electrónicos que ahora se han vuelto la marca registrada de la banda. “MAKE IT BETTER” nos lleva en una dirección y un mood diferente. Tiene distintos giros musicales que aunque no son cambios bruscos de ritmo, nos aceleran y desaceleran constantemente, de la mando con guitarras mucho más agresivas y sonidos electrónicos más experimentales.

Sin duda, ‘SCREAM MY NAME’ es una muestra fresca y clara de cómo el sonido de Amaranthe ha evolucionado después de 6 discos de carrera sin perderse en el camino. Desde sus primeros segundos se siente cómo la estructura de la canción es similar a un hit de hip-hop, pero con un glorioso rap al mejor estilo gutural de Henrik (GG6).

‘VIRAL’ fue el primer sencillo del disco y en lo que a mí me parece, uno de los mejores sencillos que la banda ha liberado en años. Tiene lo que a mi criterio debe poseer un single perfecto: es absurdamente pegajosa, pesada y muy, muy entretenida desde la primera escuchada. Y siguiendo con el criterio de “entretenimiento”, algo caracteriza a AMARANTHE, es que nunca tendrás una canción monótona, predecible o aburrida (gracias Olof!). ’ADRENALINE’ tiene como premisa clara el tenerte pegado al parlante, robando tu atención con cambios sutiles de ritmos, bajando y subiendo tu mood conforme la canción avanza. De todo el disco, me parece que es la muestra perfecta de dónde se sitúa AMARANTHE ahora, en el mapa del metal.

No necesitamos ser videntes para saber que ‘STRONG’ será considerado como un nuevo himno en los futuros shows de la banda. Con una impecable participación de Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast) como invitada, tenemos una melódica y potente balada cargada con un poderoso mensaje. A continuación, ’THE GAME’ ataca de forma rápida, agresiva y muy, muy enérgica. Es una canción que sigue la receta “Amaranthística” casi al pie de la letra. Aunque a nivel de novedad no es mucho lo que aporta, es una canción que mantiene tu atención a flor de piel. Especialmente el final en donde Nils nos demuestra la monstruosa capacidad vocal que posee.

Elize Ryd se ha encargado de demostrarnos álbum tras álbum, que puede hacer lo que desea a nivel vocal. ‘CRISTALLYNE’ nos hace flotar sobre una nube etérica pintada de los colores y texturas vocales más angelicales de Elize, contrastando de forma magnífica con la intensa, oscura  y épica voz de Nils. Con toques orquestales al mejor estilo Disney, nos traen la gran balada del álbum. Aquí no hay protagonistas vocales, están a la par.

La apocalíptica y siniestra ‘ARCHANGEL’ nos regala un viaje lleno de novedades y de cosas frescas. Tenemos una de las canciones más grandiosas del disco, comenzando de forma rápida y dinámica y culminando en una explosión lírica y llena de coros: algo que jamás habíamos escuchado en AMARANTHE antes. Cuando hablan de “the Trinity has synchronized”, se refieran a Elize, Nils y GG6; ya que el equilibrio entre las tres voces aquí es de alucinar. Una vez más, vemos el notable trabajo del genio indiscutible de Olof Mörck.

El disco explota (literal) como un huracán sónico y aplastante, rompiendo todos, todos los esquemas. Cuando escuchamos ’BOOM’, está clarísimo que it’s all about GG6! Por primera vez, tenemos un GG6 en el spotlight, arremetiendo violentamente con un rap en su mejor estilo gutural (que nunca había estado mejor que ahora). Es impredecible, es potente, es dinámica, es agresiva y tremendamente contundente. Experimental as Fuck, pero lleva el sello de AMARANTHE de inicio a fin.

‘DIE AND WAKE UP’ es otra explosión de sonidos, y me atrevo a decir que es la muestra clara de que el sonido de AMARANTHE ha tenido una evolución y una madurez indiscutible. Los versos son agresivos y pegadizos, terminando en coros más melódicos e intensos. Si bien se puede sentir un flashback de su tercer disco, “Massive Addictive”; es una versión muchísima más sólida de lo que quisieron hacer en ese entonces.

El disco termina con ’DO OR DIE’ que fue el primer single (que inicialmente tenía las voces de Angela Gossow (Ex-Arch Enemy). Entiendo perfectamente la elección. Es como el single seguro: es tremendamente pegajosa y es rápida, al mejor estilo Amaranthe. A nivel de experimento no es una canción que aporte mucho y si se compara con el resto del álbum, se queda un poco atrás. Quizás no es lo que yo hubiese escogido para cerrar.

Swedish metal visionaries AMARANTHE made it again: they came back along with another fresh masterpiece despite the global pandemic situation. After the huge success of their previous album “Helix” (2018), the visionary metal-heads are now conquering international charts all over the globe on the very first release week of their latest sonic bomb: Manifest. Masterminds Elize Ryd and Olof Mörck spent their lockdown months on the studio in Denmark, where they took the recording process on a whole new different level. This album not only picks up the very best elements of all AMARANTHE‘s albums, but showcases the brilliant ability the band has to evolve and to challenge themselves on experimentation, without losing their essence on the road. This is, without any doubt, the most fresh and dynamic album the crappy 2020 has served so far. 

The violent opening track introduces us all three vocalists one by one. ‘FEARLESS’ is a sonic up-tempo explosion loaded by rampant guitars and seasoned with all those exquisite electronic ingredients we all love, and which they are now a trademark of the band. On the other hand, ‘MAKE IT BETTER’ uses subtle rhythm twits to takes us on a ride full of different mood swings. Even though It’s a heavy song, it doesn’t stop you from dancing to it!

Without a doubt, ‘SCREAM MY NAME’ is a fresh and clear example of how AMARANTHE‘s sound has evolved after 6 career albums. From the first few seconds you can feel how the song’s structure is kind of hip-hop orientated but heavier on the best possible way. GG6‘s rapping parts mixed with growls just makes everything in the song even better than what it already is.

‘VIRAL’ was not only the first official single on the album, but one of the best singles the band has released in years. It has all elements a perfect single has to have: it is absurdly catchy, heavy and very, very entertaining from the first listen. The chorus get sticky in your head and it’s quit impossible not to sing along!

There is something I need to address while listening to this album. Something that AMARANTHE has always kept as part of their essence, is that you will rarely have a monotonous boring, predictable song from them (Thanks Olof!). ’ADRENALINE’ will glued you to the speakers, taking your attention focused on the entire song because it fucking rocks! This song is a mood rollercoaster, it goes from deadbanging with all your strenght, to wanting to be dancing all over a mosh-pit over and over again. From the rest of the songs, I think it is the perfect sample of where AMARANTHE stands now, on the metal world. And it is in my opinion, a high placed earned by hard work of constant evolution.

We don’t need to be psychics to know that ‘STRONG will become the new anthem at future band shows. With a flawless guest appearance by Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast), we have a melodic and powerful ballad packed with a powerful message. 

’THE GAME’ is also one of the most aggressive and energetic songs on the album, following the Amaranthistic recipe almost by the book. And I’ve gotta say that here, Nils’ vocal performance is just stunning.

Elize Ryd has been proving us all album after album, that she can do whatever she wants to do with her voice. ‘CRISTALLYNE’ makes us float on an etheric cloud painted with Elize’s most angelic vocal colors textures, matching in a perfect way with the intense, dark and epic vocals from Nils. The orchestra here is fantastic, and even that may be a little Disney like, it’s exactly what the song needs. And it’s perfect!

The apocalyptic and sinister ‘ARCHANGEL’ gives us a journey full of fresh things. We have one of the greatest songs on the record, starting fast and dynamic leading to a lyrical, explosion – something we’ve never heard on AMARANTHE before. When they speak about how “the Trinity has synchronized”, they refer to Elize, Nils and GG6; since the balance between the three vocals here is hallucinating. 

The album (literally) explodes like a crushing, sonic hurricane, breaking all we heard from the band before. ’BOOM!1’ it’s all about GG6! For the first time ever, we have a GG6 in the spotlight, devouring the song from start to finish, lashing out with rapping in its best growling style (which has never been THIS GOOD). It’s unpredictable, it’s powerful, it’s dynamic, aggressive and tremendously powerful. Experimental as Fuck, and that’s the best thing of it! This one was one of the most satisfying moments from this album.

‘DIE AND WAKE UP’ is also another sonic explotion, and I dare to say that by listening to this one, the band has come to the most solid-evolved point on the entire career. What I love the most is Elize’s vocals striking like a thunder fulled of force and attitude. Probably one of my favorites so far. It really picks up the best elements from “Massive Addictive” and they mixed them with the new fresh stuff they’ve been cooking. That feels different with ‘DO OR DIE’ for many reasons. Although it is catchy AF and very versatile, you can’t actually feel all fresh elements we felt on the rest on the album. Don’t get me wrong, I love the song. But  I’m not sure how much fits with the rest of the album.
